Chrysler 22 Coolant Temperature Sensor Voltage Low
How to read it
Code 22 reads as 2 flashes, pause, 2 flashes on the check-engine light. Cycle the ignition key on, off, on, off, then leave it on with the engine off, and count the flashes on the power loss or check-engine light.
New to flash codes? The How to Read Chrysler OBD-I Codes with the Key Cycle walks through the test and what the numbers mean. The general OBD-I guide covers the rest.
What does Chrysler code 22 mean?
Coolant Temperature Sensor Voltage Low
Common causes of 22
- Shorted coolant temperature sensor or signal wire to ground
- Corroded sensor connector pulling the voltage low
- Failed sensor reading far hotter than actual temperature
- On some models a crank angle sensor fault sets this same code
How to fix 22
- Check actual coolant level and temperature before condemning the sensor
- Unplug the sensor and see whether the reading swings cold
- Test sensor resistance against the factory temperature chart
- Inspect the signal wire for a short to ground
- Test the crank angle sensor on models that use it for this code
- Clear the code and confirm the reading tracks engine temperature
