How to read Chrysler codes
- Set the parking brake and put the transmission in park or neutral.
- Turn the key on, off, on, off, then on again, and leave it on with the engine not running.
- Count the flashes on the power loss or check-engine light. One flash, pause, two flashes is code 12.
- Code 55 means the end of the code list.
- Look up each number below, then clear the codes by disconnecting the battery ground cable for a short spell.
New to this? How to Read Chrysler OBD-I Codes with the Key Cycle walks through the test and what the numbers mean.
The early 2.0L sensor check
The earliest TBI engines and the 1984 to 1988 2.0L used a short self check that blinks a single number pointing at a sensor, where 0 means normal. That is a sensor check, not a fault list, so it is not published as codes here. If your car is one of those and the light blinks one number without a second group, you are seeing that check. The two-digit codes on this page cover the rest.
