GM 54 Fuel Pump Circuit Low Voltage
How to read it
Code 54 reads as 5 flashes, pause, 4 flashes on the check-engine light. Jump terminals A and B on the ALDL connector with the key off, then turn the key on with the engine off and count the check-engine flashes.

- Failed fuel pump relay

- Weak fuel pump drawing excess current
- On digital EGR models a solenoid 2 fault uses this same code
How to fix 54
- Listen for fuel pump prime with the key turned on
- Test fuel pump relay operation and replace only if it fails tests
- Check pump power and ground voltage drop with a meter
- Measure fuel pressure against specification
- On digital EGR models test the EGR solenoid 2 circuit as the alternate cause
