Code 87 reads as 8 flashes, pause, 7 flashes on the check-engine light. Jump terminals A and B on the ALDL connector with the key off, then turn the key on with the engine off and count the check-engine flashes.

How to fix 87

  1. Read codes with a paperclip jumper or scan tool
  2. Check battery and charging voltage
  3. Clean ECM power and ground connections
  4. Clear the code and see if it returns on restart
  5. Try a known good MEMCAL where fitted
  6. Replace the ECM if code 87 keeps returning
